Make It Count! Cleveland Public Library Partners with 2020 Census

Don’t be fooled on National Census Day, Wednesday, April 1; get counted! Cleveland Public Library is partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau to ensure everyone is accurately represented.

“We encourage everyone to take a few minutes and complete the 2020 Census. The results will shape the future of where we live for the next decade. Billions of dollars in federal funding are at stake and how that money is spent will directly affect everything from roads to hospitals, schools, and even community programs,” said Robin Wood, Assistant Director of Public Services at Cleveland Public Library. “The bottom line is everyone in the home counts on April 1.”

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, children under five years old were the most undercounted group in the 2010 Census and they have been undercounted for 40 years. Cleveland Public Library is helping break that trend. On Wednesday, April 1, the Library is hosting a National Census Day Storytime to encourage parents of young children to participate in the count. Parents can watch that story time at 9 a.m. on our digital platforms which include cpl.org, Facebook, and YouTube

There are three ways to complete the Census: by mail, by phone, and online. This is the first time the U.S. Census Bureau is accepting responses online. And, that’s good news for all of us staying at home to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The online process is fast, easy, and safe. All that’s needed is a unique ID code, which the Census Bureau sent in the mail.

Visit 2020census.gov to complete the Census now. Responses are based on where a person lives as of April 1, 2020.
