Cleveland Public Library Reaches a New Agreement with Local 860

Cleveland Public Library is pleased to announce a new contract agreement with Laborers International Union of North America Local 860.

Local 860 members ratified the contract on Monday, May 4, 2020.

On Thursday, May 21, the Cleveland Public Library Board of Trustees approve the terms of the ratified contract agreement at its board meeting.

Since November, the Library and Local 860 have been negotiating a contract for roughly 50 Safety and Protective Services (SPS) officers. Through countless talks, bargaining in good faith, and teamwork, both sides reached an agreement to secure staff, patrons, and all Library facilities.

Cleveland Public Library welcomes the new three-year contract, which takes effect immediately.

“The safety of our staff and patrons is of the utmost importance. The new contract maintains a high-quality security staff to protect our 27 branches and downtown locations,” said Lynn Sargi, Chief Talent Officer for Cleveland Public Library. “The contract also establishes competitive wages and professional growth for officers while still setting the course for a financially sustainable future for the Library.”

Over the last year, Cleveland Public Library has worked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to enhance security. The Library has hired more security officers and made safety changes which include added cameras and door locks, improved lighting, and creating better sight lines inside and outside of our buildings.
