Writers & Readers Presents Anita Hill. Saturday, May 21 at 12pm via zoom.

Her testimony and story made national headlines. Now, Brandeis University law professor, attorney, and author Anita Hill will be the featured speaker during Cleveland Public Library’s virtual Writers & Readers series on Saturday, May 21 at 12pm. Those who attend the Anita Hill event will receive a free copy of her book.

Writers & Readers engages authors, academics, and public figures in discussions surrounding the books and stories that have shaped their lives. This year’s theme is Courage, Commitment, and Change.

Hill became a national figure in 1991 when she accused U.S. Supreme Court nominee and her supervisor Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment. Her new book, Believing: Our Thirty-Year Journey to End Gender Violence, is a manifesto about the origins and course of gender violence in our society; a combination of memoir, personal accounts, law, and social analysis, and a powerful call to arms from one of our most prominent and poised survivors.

Community Workshop

Plexus LGBT & Allied Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Amanda Cole, leads an interactive, online workshop designed to explore the intersection of gender stereotypes and gender-based violence and the ways that they spawn homophobia and transphobia against LGBTQ+ individuals or those perceived to be LGBTQ+. Discover tools we can all use to help support a shift to societal “rules” and norms that create healthier and more equitable spaces for everyone. Wednesday, May 25 | 4:00 p.m. Online via Zoom
