GRAMMY CAMP – WEEKEND TRACK OVERVIEW

Audio Engineering

Campers will receive comprehensive instruction on recording techniques, including mic
technique, signal flow, and sonic shaping both in studio and live applications. Campers will also
learn aspects of traditional music production, video production, and budgeting as applied to
today’s rapidly changing industry. Students should have a rudimentary understanding of
recording equipment and be familiar with basic audio terminology (i.e. microphone, compression,
reverb, etc.).

Electronic Music Production

This Career Track is open to students that want to move their music creation and production skills
to a more advanced level. Participants will learn state-of-the-art methods of programming, editing,
sampling, and mixing on digital audio workstations to help further develop their original
compositions. This Career Track will also expose Campers to cutting-edge techniques in digital
music production, remixing and sound manipulation.

Video Production

Campers will receive comprehensive instruction on video recording techniques, including camera
and microphone technique, and pre- and post-production in multiple applications. Campers will
also learn aspects of traditional music and video production. Students should have at least a
rudimentary understanding of video recording equipment. A familiarity with video editing software
is also very helpful, but not mandatory.

Songwriting

Aspiring songwriters will sharpen the skills of their craft while exploring song structure, harmony,
melody, lyric writing and, where applicable, vocal technique. This track will also provide campers
with the opportunity to collaborate with a band, singers, and other songwriters. They will also gain
valuable insight on sound business practices including effective marketing. Although this Career
Track does not require you to be a singer, you should have a rudimentary understanding of music
theory, and piano or guitar performance abilities.

Vocal Performance

This track is for singers only. Singers’ skills will be honed with a focus on vocal techniques,
background (live and recorded) and lead singing. This track will provide campers with the
opportunity to work and collaborate with instrumental combos as well as the songwriters while
learning valuable insights on sound business practices including effective marketing.

GRAMMY CAMP – WEEKEND FACULTY BIOS

Audio Engineering with Tremaine Williams – Producer / Engineer, Composer, Tour Personnel

Upon graduating from Full Sail, Tremaine Williams began his career as an intern at Hidden Beach Recordings in 2004; it was during this time that he became a voting member of The Recording Academy and met producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. This led to a job as their in-house engineer/programmer and credits on projects by artists like Usher, Janet Jackson, 50 Cent, and Boyz II Men. Next, Tremaine took his talents on the road, joining Mariah Carey and Bruno Mars tour crew as a stage manager, keyboard tech, and programmer. His influence continues into TV and movies – he’s produced music for hit shows including Keeping Up with the Kardashians, NBC’s New Amsterdam, Fox’s Empire, and co-wrote the theme song for ABC’s Mixed-ish. He’s also worked on the Grammys annual telecast, the Stellar Awards, NAACP Image Awards, BET’s Sunday Best, composed the score for The Last Fall, and, most recently, Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special for Apple TV+

Songwriting with Haleigh Bowers – Songwriter, Producer, Artist

Haleigh Bowers, a self-proclaimed word nerd based in Los Angeles, California, is in the midst of taking the world by storm. Inspired by authors and musical artists, she channels her passion for language and storytelling into potent lyricism that prods at the human psyche. She uniquely combines vulnerable introspection and evocative melodies to transcend the boundaries of modern folk rock – undoubtedly leaving you wanting more. Her skillset as a collaborative writer has resulted in a long list of accolades including placements on over 100 episodes of television shows spanning 10+ networks. Fueled by strong coffee and her local library card, Bowers is set to release her much anticipated debut solo album, “I’d Gladly Do It All Again” in the fall of 2022. In the meantime, she’s kicked things off with the release of her singles “Jealous” and “Not Your Girl”, out now on all streaming platforms.

Video Production with Matthew Skurow – Producer, Director, Writer

Matthew Skurow is an American film and television producer, director, and screenwriter. As an Industry
innovator in traditional and non-traditional media, his projects include original television series, feature
films, large-scale stage shows, live streamed events and virtual & augmented reality experiences. Having
produced over 500 hours of network television, his recent credits include primetime and Emmy
nominated shows for Dick Clark Productions, CBS, Fox, and Fremantle Media. No stranger to the red
carpet, Matthew translated the glitz and glamour of those moments into a live 1-hour OSCAR Red Carpet
broadcast for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, the Accounting Firm for the Oscars, and streamed it to the
Huffington Post. He chairs the Online Video Committee for the Producers Guild of America. He is an active
member of the Academy of Television Artis & Sciences, Producers Guild of America, and currently serves
as President and Executive Producer of Miraculi Entertainment, a Production Company located in Los
Angeles.

Vocal Performance with Laura Donohue

Laura received her undergraduate degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she studied classical piano and voice. Recently, she completed a Master of Music degree at Belmont University, where she piloted a program focusing on the unique aspects of training commercial vocalists. She is the Vocal Instructor for the GRAMMY Museum’s educational program GRAMMY Camp, is a certified yoga instructor in Vinyasa Flow (RYT200) and is a certified Vocal Health First Aider through Vocal Health Education (NCFE accreditation). Laura’s research on the vocalist’s relationship with technology and audio engineers is published in Action-Based Approaches I n Popular Music Education (“An Essential Collaboration: Teaching Vocalists to Work with Audio Technology and Audio Engineers”) and she is a regularly featured contributor to the blog “ Singing in P popular Musics”. Since moving to Nashville twenty-five years ago, Laura has maintained a private studio of vocalists, taught workshops, and camps in Nashville and beyond, and served on the faculties of Belmont University, Lipscomb University, and Middle Tennessee State University. She was also one of the founding directors of Girls Up Loud, an empowering singing program for middle and high school-aged girls based in Nashville. Laura’s own professional vocal experience encompasses decades of live performance, studio singing, musical theater roles, and Voice Over.
