“Black Books, Black Business, Black Excellence” is the theme that kicks off the 6th Annual Great Lakes African American Writers Conference on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Cleveland Public Library Main Branch downtown. Starting at 10 a.m., attending creatives who are emerging as playwrights, fiction, non-fiction, and comic book writers, and journalists will sharpen their artistic tools for entrepreneurial pursuits, philanthropic support, and paths to publishing. Authors will sell and promote their books. The free sessions open to the public will run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Great Lakes African American Writers Conference (GLAAWC pronounced “glossy”) since its inception
presents exceptional and renowned writers to audiences in Cleveland, regionally, and globally. Walter Mosley, Pearl Cleage, and Toni Tipton Martin were among the previous presenters. GLAAWC’s goal is to expand artistic and business knowledge, skills, and access for aspiring and published writers.
This closing event of the Cleveland Foundation’s Cleveland Book Week will feature Alice Dunbar Nelson
Professional Keynote Speaker playwright Janice Lowe. She will also participate with Kim El, Karla Payne,
Terrence Spivey, and Lisa Langford on the playwrights’ panel. Patricia Blakemore will moderate the panel on entrepreneurs. The Comic Book Entrepreneurs’ panel includes 6 creatives with Dawn Arrington (Founder of Comics on the Corner) moderating. Several Divine Nine (Black Sororities and Fraternities) authors be featured on a panel as well.
GLAAWC invites you to this free unique opportunity on the distinct experience of published and emerging
African-American authors’ creativity centered on “Black Books, Black Business, and Black Excellence”. Again, GLAAWC is Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Cleveland Library Main Branch downtown, starting at 10 a.m.
