A Fresh Look: Cleveland Public Library Unveils New Brand and Vision for the City of Cleveland

It’s National Library Week. Take a fresh look at Cleveland Public Library (CPL) and show us some Library love during the week of April 5. The Library is unveiling a new brand and vision this week to uplift and inspire our community.

“Cleveland Public Library is more than just books,” said Felton Thomas, Jr., Executive Director and CEO of Cleveland Public Library. “The pandemic has shown us how vital our services are to the community. Whether it’s curiosity and knowledge, fact and fiction, or individual and community, Cleveland Public Library is at the center of it all.”

The new logo reflects the many facets of the Library. The circular image with books in the middle represents Cleveland Public Library’s role as a center of learning. The emblem highlights the love of reading and how the Library inspires people through discovery. It is a symbol of the Library’s work to connect people to vital services, provide skill-building programs, and create conversations that matter.

“The new branding is part of our refreshed strategic direction to forge a new vision for the city of Cleveland,” remarks Tana Peckham, Chief Strategy Officer at Cleveland Public Library. “Cleveland Public Library’s vision is to create a city in which opportunity is within reach for everyone and a library that empowers its people. The new branding highlights everything people love about Cleveland Public Library, now with a fresh new look.”

The new branding comes at a time when Cleveland Public Library is preparing to begin construction to build or renovate its neighborhood branches. Work is expected to begin late spring on Jefferson, Woodland, and West Park branches. Those locations are now temporarily closed. “Our promise to the community is finally coming to fruition. We’re excited to see months of meetings and design discussions take shape,” said John Lang, Chief Operations Officer at Cleveland Public Library.  For project updates, visit cpl.org or our coUrbanize project site.
