Cozy Up with a Good Book! Cleveland Public Library Launches Community Winter Reading Challenge

Kick off the New Year with a good book. Starting Friday, January 1, join Cleveland Public Library for the Winter Reading Challenge sponsored by Simon and Schuster.

This year’s theme, “Books Like Us” celebrates diversity and culture. “It’s important for everyone to read books with characters who look like them,” said Erica Marks, Youth Outreach and Programming Coordinator at Cleveland Public Library. “Representation helps readers form a deeper connection to the reading material.”

The Winter Reading Challenge is open to all Cleveland residents. Here’s how it works:

  • Sign up at cpl.beanstack.org.
  • Read 10 books or more and record them on the Beanstack site.
  • Tweet about your reads using #BooksLikeUs and #WinterReadCLE
  • Readers have until Sunday, January 31 to complete the challenge requirements.
  • Need something to read? Visit cpl.org or call Cleveland Public Library to reserve a book today. Need a recommendation? ASK CPL to live chat with a Librarian.

The more people who read on behalf of Cleveland Public Library the greater our chance to win a book collection or virtual author visits for the entire community. “This is an amazing opportunity for the city of Cleveland,” said Marks. “From reducing stress to broadening our imagination or keeping our minds healthy and sharp, the benefits of reading are endless. The Library encourages everyone to pick up a book this Winter to help our neighborhoods acquire more reading materials.”

COMING SOON! Young Scholars Academy will return in January. The program prepares children ages 3-6 and their families for Kindergarten. Children learn about caring and sharing, counting, alphabets, and more using fun activities both online and at our neighborhood branches. More information and registration information are on cpl.org.

Cleveland Public Library is open to drive-up and walk-up services Monday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. To order your next read, movie, or audiobook by mail, call one of our 27 neighborhood branches or visit our online catalog on cpl.org.
