Cleveland READS is breathing new life into 20 Little Free Libraries in Cleveland.

Cleveland Public Library, in collaboration with the Ohio Carpenters Apprenticeship & Training Center, the Painters & Allied Trades District Council #6, the Cleveland Chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW/CLE), Rhonda Crowder & Associates, the Kids Books Bank and partners will kick off the revitalization project that will put more books in the hands of Cleveland residents at East Clark Elementary School on Wednesday, November 8th, at 12:30 p.m.

A brand-new Little Free Library will be unveiled in honor of Cleveland READS to replace the Little Free Library at East Clark Elementary after it was vandalized.

The project team has been working closely with NCJW/CLE, who have been instrumental in managing the Little Free Libraries across the city. Their dedication and efforts in identifying the libraries most in need of replacement have been invaluable in shaping the project’s scope.

Little Free Libraries play a vital role in fostering a love for reading and providing access to books for everyone, regardless of age or background,” said Felton Thomas, Jr., Cleveland Public Library Executive Director and CEO. “This project has truly been a collaborative effort. The team will not only restore these beloved community fixtures, but also strengthen our commitment to promoting literacy and community engagement in Cleveland.”

Cleveland Public Library, in conjunction with the Kids Books Bank, will provide an initial supply of books for each of the 20 Little Free Libraries being refreshed, ensuring that the libraries not only look fresh but also continue to serve as a valuable resource for readers of all ages. The collaboration with the Carpenters Union Training Center and the Painters Union ensure that the libraries are built and painted to the highest standards, ensuring longevity and durability.
