Cleveland Public Library offers a range of job and career services, including access to job search and resume resources. Patrons can also attend workshops, use computers with job-related software, and explore educational tools to advance their careers.
Career & Small Business Services

Business, Economics, & Labor Department
Located on the 4th floor of the Louis Stokes Wing at Main Library, BEL is here to help small business professionals, investors, job seekers, and researchers. Staff provide specialized assistance and information on topics including accounting, careers, real estate, statistics, stocks, and more.

Clark-Fulton Learning Center
The Learning Center is more than just a MakerSpace, it’s a vibrant hub where individuals of all ages can build new skills and grow. Whether you want to enhance your digital know-how, dive into creative projects, grow your small business or advance your career skills, our learning center team is here to help.

TechCentral MakerSpace
The TechCentral MakerSpace is a design and fabrication space that allows you to turn your ideas into reality. The space is available to all Cleveland Public Library and CLEVNET library card holders. To use the Makerspace requires a library card in good standing and a Photo ID.

Aspire Greater Cleveland
A free resource for High School Equivalency (HSE)/GED® preparation, English for Speakers of other Languages (ESOL), one-on-one tutoring, skills classes, and workforce assistance. ESOL classes are currently available at some of our campuses.
Job Searching & Resume Help
One of the first steps for job seekers is creating a resume and CPL staff are available to assist you. We also recommend using the resume building resources below. These do not require a library card but will ask you to create an account using your email and a password. You may also be asked to verify using a phone number.
Got Resume Builder
With tutorials, samples, and writing tips, Got Resume Builder also provides easy to use resume templates that can be downloaded and shared in multiple file formats. Free to use but requires an account.
Indeed
Indeed is one of the world’s largest websites for job searchers, compiling job postings directly from companies and other websites. Indeed also offers a free resume builder with downloadable templates and no account required to create and save your resume.
Ohio Means Jobs
Designed for Ohio job seekers and businesses, Ohio Means Jobs provides a central access point for employment, training, and professional development services. These services include resume help, career assessments, and skill development modules. You can also create an account to access tools like the free resume builder.
Online Training & Certification
Cleveland Public Library offers free access to online training and certification for library card holders. These resources can be accessed remotely or at any of our 27 branches or Main Library.
CreativeBug
A great place to start for makers, creatives, and small business owners, Creativebug provides pre-recorded and live video tutorials and classes. Learn to sew, crochet, draw, paint, and use creative technologies. FREE to CPL card holders and accessible using a web browser, Android, and iOS applications.
Digital Learn
Digital Learn provides a variety of online computer classes, ranging from finding jobs online to online shopping, we’ll even help you get started on Facebook, Microsoft Word, and more! Cleveland Public Library along with Cuyahoga County Public Library, East Cleveland Public Library and other area partners, have joined together to bridge the digital divide. Collectively we are known as the Digital Inclusion Anchors. Vision: For every resident in Greater Cleveland to have access to affordable devices, reliable internet and the relevant skills to use them so that they can empower themselves to seek every opportunity available through the digital economy.
Gale Courses
Offers free high-quality courses and career training programs online. There is a wide range of classes including computer applications, web design, accounting, and personal development. You can see a full listing of courses by selecting “View Catalog.” Courses are FREE with your Cleveland Public Library card. Gale also provides access to commonly used legal forms.
LinkedIn Learning
Receive free access to LinkedIn Learning with your Library card. Explore 16,000 virtual courses professionally-produced courses to help you take the next step in your career or develop new skills. Courses cover a variety of topics (including business, design, web development, and multimedia skills) and software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and open-source applications) that can help you pursue personal and professional goals. These courses are delivered by expert instructors and feature searchable transcripts that make it easy to find quick answers to questions. They also feature Certificates of Completion.

Mango Languages is an interactive language-learning platform, offering more than 70 different languages and 18 different ESL courses. Learn real-life conversations with native-speaker audio and cultural context so that you can speak like a local. North Star Digital Literacy
Test and build your skills with Northstar Digital Literacy! This online, self-guided assessment and learning resource tests your knowledge and provides modules to improve your digital skills. Ohio library access to Northstar is funded through a federal Institute of Museum and Library Services ARPA grant awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
Peterson’s Test and Career Prep
Offers the latest college and graduate entrance exams, as well as in-depth information on colleges, universities, vocational schools, tuition assistance, and career exploration. Includes online practice exams for college, graduate school, the military, or trade school, and careers such as medical assisting, cosmetology, and auto or truck repair. A selection of available tests includes: ACT, American Foreign Service Officer, AP, ASVAB, Civil Service, CLEP, Clerical, DSST, EMT, Firefighter, GED, GMAT, GRE, Law Enforcement, LSAT, MCAT, Military Flight Aptitude, NCLEX-PN, Officer Candidate, Postal, SAT, State Trooper, and TOEFL.

LegalWorks at Cleveland Public Library
LegalWorks is a non-profit organization that provides legal consultation and assistance for qualified, low-income youth and adults in underserved communities. Areas of assistance focus on legal issues that prevent people from moving forward in their lives, including expungements, sealing records, obtaining certificates of qualified employment, clearing outstanding warrants, restoring driving privileges, and other select legal matters. Service is availabe at four library locations by appointment only.
